Today we held a meeting over zoom. We listened to one of our member’s speech, and discussed the current COVID-19 situation.  The main topic we focused on today was what our organization could do to help our community in these unprecedented situations. One of the most popular ideas was to fundraise money (possibly using online platforms like gofundme) to buy surgical masks, hand sanitizers, and other hygienic materials to donate to poor families or hospitals who are severely lacking in PPE. We also discussed making hygiene kits (hand sanitizers, disinfecting wipes, etc.) for distribution, spreading awareness of the importance of social distancing and shelter-in-place, working together as a community to contribute materials to donate, etc.

In addition, we talked about what the responsibilities of the government and the citizens are during these times. One of our members brought up the fact that currently, the US government is focused too much on revitalizing the economy and combating the economic ramifications while they should be more focused on curing or fully treating the patients. We came to an agreement that the citizens should do their part in following the health recommendations of the government (ex. social distancing, shelter-in-place, etc), while the government should focus on obtaining PPE so that doctors and nurses are able to safely treat the patients. We concluded that the cooperation between citizens and the government is crucial in fighting the COVID-19.
